What's holding you back with your novel?

Hello!

What's holding you back with your novel?

A lot of writers tell me that they just "don't have enough time" to write. And I absolutely get it: my life is packed full, too, and I often wish I had just a bit more free time each day.

But I also hear from plenty of writers who do have a good amount of time ... and they struggle to sit down and get words on the page. Just "having time" isn't enough.

And although writing a novel is a big commitment, it doesn't require a crazy amount of time. Most writers with busy jobs, kids, volunteer roles, etc can plausibly carve out 15-30 minutes per day (and 30 minutes/day is easily enough to draft a whole novel in a year).

So it's not really about the time.

I'm increasingly certain that for most novel writers, something else is getting in the way.

That might be in your life as a whole:

  • There are so many other things on my to-do list every day, I hardly ever get round to writing.
  • My life is really stressful right now. Even when I get some time, I don't have the headspace to write.

Or it might be in your writing itself:

  • I keep trying to write my novel ... but I've ground to a halt and I don't know what happens next.
  • I feel like my writing just isn't good enough. In fact, I'm worried it's so bad, people are going to laugh at me for even trying.

Do any of those strike a chord with you?

If so, please know:

There is nothing wrong with you or your writing.

You don't lack commitment, motivation, ability, or anything else.

Instead, you've run up against a roadblock.

Roadblocks (in both life and writing) are things that get in the way of you writing your novel. They're unlikely to just vanish, and sometimes, however hard you try, you can't get rid of them completely. You need a way to get around them.

That's what we'll be tackling in my free workshop next Tuesday ... and I'd love you to come along, so we can figure out exactly what's in your way, and how you can take your first steps around it.
